                                              Characters: Wilbur and his cat.

Overview
Wilbur sets off in a boat with his cat to find the legendary Golden Snailing boat. He meets the obligatory three crises at which he must make a choice to ignore the problem in favour of his own agenda or do something to help others. The underlying message is that doing good has its own rewards and the goal will be achieved anyway. A sweet story with a good message and gorgeous illustrations

illustrations : As always, Graeme Base’s illustrations are exquisite and have been a favourite of my family for decades. The colours are rich and vibrant and the depictions of the story elements are superb. There is always something new to see every time a page is turned.

Our first ever Graeme Base was a gift for my son on his 11th Birthday. Called the Eleventh Hour, it is filled with good rhyme, lots of puzzles and great plot as well as terrific characters. We bought Animalia (an alphabet book with oomph) and have enjoyed many of his other stories over the years. If you have not already treated yourself to a Graeme Base it is time you did.

Week 9 of the 52 week challenge begins tomorrow on the theme of tree. I have not yet completed a piece to upload but it will be along soon.

  2. Oh, yes, Animalia!!! Graeme Base does AWESOME illustration work! Thanks for the reminder. I think it's a book app now, too. Any idea on how to pronounce his name? This book sounds fun. I like the theme. And I love the phrase, "golden snailing boat." So clever. Thanks for sharing.
